FAQ
CANCELLATION POLICY:
Members may cancel up to 48 hours before the walk with no penalty, your fee will be credited to a future walk. Cancellations less than 48 hours before a walk are nonrefundable; those who have not paid ahead of time will be charged. Members who are ‘no-shows’–ie do not inform us ahead of time–must pay for the missed tour before booking any future tours.
Nonmembers: payments are nonrefundable and cannot be credited to a future walk, so please double-check your schedule and the weather before you book!
Private tours: Cancellations up to 48 hours beforehand will be refunded less 20%. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the walk are nonrefundable.
What if Historic Shanghai cancels a tour? In the event that we need to cancel, we will reschedule the tour for another day. If you’re not able to attend a rescheduled tour, we will offer credit for a future tour.
WEATHER
It’s raining! It’s really hot! Is the tour still on? Historic Shanghai tours go in all weather, rain, shine, snow…We will cancel and reschedule only in the event of severe weather. If this occurs, we will contact you the morning of the tour with details. For refunds, please see What if Historic Shanghai cancels a tour? above.
PAYMENTS
What sort of payments do you take, and when do I pay? Nonmembers must pay in advance, via WeChat or Alipay. Members may pay at the start of events, via WeChat, Alipay or cash, although some events may require prepayment.
Private Tours: All private tours must be paid in advance. In addition to WeChat/Alipay, we also take international credit cards via Stripe.
Members: For groups of five or more, payment in advance is required to confirm your booking.
MEMBERSHIP
Do I have to be a member to join your events? No, anyone can join, but members pay a discounted fee and have access to members-only events.
What kinds of membership are available? Single memberships (one person, RMB 600) and Partner Memberships, RMB 1000 for two, including children 18 and under. Memberships are good for 12 months. Membership fees are nonrefundable, nontransferable, and cannot be credited to future events. **We recommend that potential members try out a walk before committing to membership**. You can join and pay by scanning the QR code below, or at any event.
CHILDREN
Are your walks child-friendly? Is there a discount for children? Children are welcome on our walks, but be aware that we’re walking for 2.5 hours outside and we go in all weather. Children ages four and under are free, and it’s half price for children ages 5-12. Please note: those paying the children’s rate do not get remote listening devices.
PRIVATE TOURS
I’m only in Shanghai for 2 days, and you don’t have a tour on those days. Can I still take a Historic Shanghai tour? Yes! You can take a Historic Shanghai private tour – for list of private tours available, click here. Or we’ll customize one for you!
